Product Overview
Genestra Active Chewable B12 with L-Methylfolate- 60 tablets
The body’s natural active form for energy production and metabolism
The ACTIVE vitamin B’s utilize premium source ingredients such as methylcobalamin, Metafolin®, riboflavin-5-phosphate and pyridoxal-5-phosphate. These are in the body’s most preferred active forms, helping to provide support to energy production and metabolic processes. The vitamin B complex consists of vitamin B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin and niacinamide), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B7 (biotin), B9 (folate) and B12 (methylcobalamin). As co-enzymes, the B vitamins play an important role in energy production, helping to metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins.1 B vitamins also help in normal growth and development through the formation of red blood cells and tissue formation.2 B vitamins are not generally stored in the body in any appreciable amounts (with the exception of vitamin B12) as they are water-soluble substances – thus the requirement for vitamin B supplementation.

Additional product info: Metafolin® Metafolin® [(6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid, calcium salt or L-methylfolate] is a patented pure form of the naturally-occurring predominant form of folate. “Folates” is the term comprising all the various folate forms, including folic acid. Folates are water-soluble B vitamins that play a key role for a variety of biochemical reactions. Green leafy vegetables in particular are rich in folate.
Bioavailable folate form Metafolin® is the active form of folate. Other folates like folic acid need to be activated before it can be used by the body. In other words, Metafolin® is independent of the underlying genotype of specific folate dependent enzymes (e.g. MTHFR: Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase). The activation of folic acid into an active folate requires several enzymatic steps. The efficacy of these metabolic processes demonstrate that folic acid may not be adequately converted into metabolically active folate forms.6, 7, 8
Folate: Important for the homocysteine metabolic pathway All homocysteine in the body is biosynthesized from methionine, an essential amino acid found abundantly in meats, seafood, dairy products, and eggs. Protein-rich diets contain ample amounts of methionine and consequently produce significant levels of homocysteine in the body. Homocysteine is metabolized through two pathways: remethylation and transsulfuration (See Figure 2: Homocysteine Metabolic Pathways).9 Remethylation requires vitamin B12, folate, and the enzyme 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR). Active folate (Metafolin®) works in concert with vitamin B12 as a methyl-group donor in the conversion of homocysteine back to methionine.10
