About Homeopathic Labeling

A homeopathic label looks like a conventional drug label because, legally, it is one. Over-the-counter homeopathic products carry a Drug Facts panel listing active ingredients with their potency (for example Arnica montana 6X), the purpose of each, labeled uses, warnings, directions and inactive ingredients. "HPUS" next to an ingredient means it is listed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States.

How to read potency

X (or D in Europe) means a 1:10 dilution repeated that many times; C means 1:100. A 6X has been diluted 1:10 six times. Many complexes combine several potencies of the same ingredient in one formula.

What the label does not mean

No homeopathic product is approved by the FDA. HPUS listing confirms how an ingredient is prepared, not that it has been evaluated for safety or effectiveness. Homeopathic products are marketed under the FDA's risk-based enforcement approach, set out in its December 2022 guidance Homeopathic Drug Products.

How we describe products

The Federal Trade Commission holds efficacy claims for over-the-counter homeopathic products to the same standard as other OTC drugs. For that reason, AnovaHealth product pages repeat the manufacturer's labeled uses and do not add claims of our own. Clinical and traditional context lives in Anova University, clearly labeled as education.
